Okay, note to self: It is NOT a good idea to first gorge one's self on a meal from the Bear Rock Cafe and then immediately take a long walk around the neighborhood. I swear, there really is something to the old rule that says you should wait so long after you eat before engaging in strenuous physical activity. Granted, walking isn't exactly strenuous, but it can be when you've just eaten really heavy food...
Enough complaining. :P My stomach ache will go away in time, and I'm thinking sleep is just the cure I need.
Today is my "Sunday", the end of my weekend, and tomorrow it's back to work. I'm not particularly looking forward to waking up at 6am tomorrow morning, but I had a really great weekend and am feeling pretty refreshed. Yesterday I drove to Daytona Beach to visit my sister and Ryan (her husband). They flew in to Orlando yesterday morning for a week long vacation in an ocean front motel in Daytona Beach. So yes, I finally made my beach sojourn, although it hardly counted as such. It was way too windy and cold to actually venture into the ocean, so we resorted to simply walking along the ocean with sunglasses and tightly closed mouths - lest the sand blow into our mouths and eyes!
I didn't mind the weather though...I was just so damn happy to see Kel and Ryan! I haven't laughed as hard as I laughed with them yesterday since I was back in Ohio. It was so nice, so refreshing, and so damn difficult to say goodbye! I really hope the weather clears up for them, because it would be pretty disappointing to travel all this way, only to enjoy ocean views instead of ocean swims and sunbathing.
As for today...well I made my first trip to the gun range with Dan, Deb's husband (Deb = my coworker and friend). Last week was my no-ammo lesson, when we covered gun safety, grip, and mechanisms. Today I actually got to shoot guns. Lots of guns. I learned how to shoot a revolver, 21, and 9mm (semi-automatic) all in one morning! Yes, I am a bad-ass. :) I think I did pretty well for my first in-range lesson, and even hit the bullseye a few times! The revolver was much more difficult to shoot, because the "kick" was significantly more substantial and the pull a little stiffer. I am such a geek...at one point I imagined myself as Anita Blake, landing a few silver bullets in some rogue werewolf...
Yes, I'm not normal. :) But normalcy is soooo overrated, don't you think?
Dan and Deb are leaving for a cruise this Saturday, and I am house/pet-sitting for them while they're gone. They have three dogs and two cats: Tika, Sterm, and Keira are the dogs; Imp and Myth are the cats. I am REALLY looking forward to some "fur time" because I miss my own "fur children" so much! Plus it will be nice to have a whole house to myself for a few days. I'm especially looking forward to Wednesday and Thursday, my days off, because there won't be any roommates to wake me up ungodly early when I don't have to be up. I was up at 7am both today and yesterday thanks to they-who-speak-loudly. Gosh how I would love to sleep in past 7am just one morning! Is that really so unreasonable?
Alas, tomorrow it's a 6am wake-up call. Work awaits... Although nothing ever feels like work at Disney World. Not really. :)Labels: beach, food, guns

This post is about cravings. For example, right now I really want some cheesecake. Creamy, fluffy, rich, chocolately, one-million-effing-calories cheesecake. Bring it on.
Don't you hate totally random cravings that come out of nowhere? This morning my sister called me at 11am because she had a McDonald's craving.
Like the lazy ass I am, I was still in bed.
I had set my alarm for 9am to get up and run. Yes, you read that correctly, Megan is actually trying the whole "exercise" thing. It seems to work wonders for fat asses across the nation, so why not mine? I'll tell you why it won't work for mine. Instead of getting up at 9am to run, I woke up at 11am to go to McDonald's with my sister. :) Yay me!
Actually, I did run after I came home...if you can actually call it running. It was really more like dragging my body around the block and back praying to God that no one saw me gasping for air, breathing like a beached whale. Still, I felt pretty good about myself for trying. Maybe next time I'll try a 10 minute run. XD Don't want to overdo it, you know.
Hm, but I'm still craving cheesecake.
Last night after bible study my friends and I went to Applebee's to celebrate the end of the quarter (AND THERE WAS GREAT REJOICING HELL YAAAAAAA!). I was absolutely ravenous, as I hadn't had a substantial thing to eat all day. At work earlier in the day I didn't get a chance to slip out for lunch until around 2:15pm. The little snack bar I usually buy lunch from, however, closed at 2pm. So no lunch for Megan. When I came home at around 5pm I just wasn't hungry anymore, but I had a little bit of left over mac and cheese to try and head off the inevitable hunger migraine I knew was forthecoming. Yeah, it didn't work, but Exedrin Migraine is a wonderful thing.
Back to Applebee's. We ate half-priced-appetizers (except for me - I ordered myself a full meal, thank you very much), and Lisa and I split a Bahamamama. [Photo: Lisa (left) and Me (right) enjoying our Bahamama] It was very good, but we only drank about half of it because both of us are lightweights and both of us were driving. Oh well! Afterwards we all came back to my place and sat up on the roof chatting and enjoying the lovely evening. Did you know Columbus has stars? I didn't either! You can actually see them from my roof at night...
Roof = my new favorite place. You can crawl out onto the roof from my bedroom window, and I've taken to hanging out there every chance I get. I like it because I can enjoy the outdoors without worrying about strangers hastling me or weirdos staring at me, and it's a perfect sunbathing spot. I don't usually lay out in the sun, because I am pretty fair skinned and tend to burn easily. It's nice to have a little sun though, pink or tan, instead of the pasty white color I usually am.
Okay, this post is running a little on the long side and I really have nothing interesting to say, except:
HELL YA RAGS-TO-RICHES! YOU GO GIRL! Rags to Riches won the Belmont Stakes tonight. She's the first filly to win the Belmont since 1905. Ah yes, girl power reigned supreme. :)
Okay, I'm done now. Does anyone know where I can get some cheesecake?Labels: exercise, food, friends, horses, roof

Wow I feel like crap. My attitude needs a serious readjustment. It's hard to be positive though when I completely feel like shit. I'm exhausted both physically and mentally, and I feel as though I could sleep for a week straight. However, I have a shit ton of studying to do for tomorrow's cell biology exam. I skipped molecular genetics today to work on my cell essays. I finished them about an hour ago only to find my printer out of ink. So I just returned from a trip to Staples, which is never good for my blood pressure. Columbus drivers have to be among the worst in the nation - seriously. I never had a fit of road rage in my life prior to moving to this damned city. All of a sudden I'm cursing fluently at other drivers and throwing things around inside my car. It can't all be me...
So I just ordered myself a large pepporoni pizza, courtesy of my "free pizza" coupon from Papa John's. They don't make my favorite pizza, but hey...it's free. Everytime I order Papa John's I immediately think of Papa Bear's Restaurant back in good ol'Jackson Township. They seriously had the best angel hair pasta this side of Italy (if that makes any sense). What I wouldn't give for a dinner at Papa Bear's right now! Sure they had that creepy stuffed bear at the entryway, but really it was all worth it. Wow, and their salad too...oh gosh.
So sue me - I'm very food motivated right now. I should be studying, but the pizza should be ready in like ten minutes so I'm not about to dive into cytoskeletons and motor proteins just yet. Pbbb.
On the "Grease!" front, Ashley Spencer did really well last night! She sang a duet with Max, and they were definitely my favorite couple. Very fun to watch! Whooooot Jackson Twp!
Awww! I found the Papa Bear's logo. http://wkdd-cc.akroncanton-radio.com/details.php?pid=15064 Now I'm feeling really nostalgic.
This is going to be another very late night. Caffeine my old friend! "Drink up with me now and forget all about the pressure of days..."Labels: food, grease, jackson, school

2:16 PM
Well yuck. I have a molecular genetics exam on Monday, but my parents will be staying with me over the weekend. I know I won't get much studying done with them around, so I've been trying to study this week instead of waiting to cram on Sunday night (...will probably still happen...). Anyway, after class today I decided to stop at the RPAC for a healthy lunch and some good studying, instead of heading right home where a million distractions abound.
I ended up paying $7 for a small wrap (gross), and a small cup of tomato-basil-parmesian soup (just plain weird tasting). I felt so depressed eating my rather pitiful and bland lunch that I couldn't concentrate on studying. I kept thinking about oreos and pasta, and the yummy Italian subs at Mirror Lake Cafe for the same price. Not to mention the distraction that is well toned particularly good looking male athletes working out in the RPAC...
Lesson learned: There is no studying to be done at the RPAC. Eye candy abounds, but when it comes to real food...well, I'll stick with my ramen and oreos, thank you very much.
So I'm home now, and trying to find the motivation to pick up a textbook.
In other news, tonight I plan on trying out for Off the Lake's production of "Children of Eden" (yay Stephen Schwartz musicals!). I'm not particularly fond of singing in front of people because I have never been secure in my singing abilities. I've been told that my voice isn't too bad, so we'll see how things go. I've decided to sing the first two verses of "When I Meet the Wizard" from Wicked for my audition. I feel a bit sorry for my neighbors since I've been belting it out in preparation for this evening, and I'm sure they can hear me. After all, the walls in these apartments are paper thin. Hehe.
Hm...so after last quarter's hellish workload, I'm feeling pretty good about this quarter. Two of my classes are pretty challenging, but I've actually had a life outside of school so far this quarter. Then again, I haven't started one paper yet, and I haven't had any exams. Still, the optimism is good for my mental health, as are the two furry felines who follow me around like shadows. I do so love my cats...
When I decide to start dating, it is absolutely imperative that my boyfriend know that my cats are my children. "Must love dogs AND cats" is a prerequisite for even approaching me with romantic intentions. :P Animal haters beware: the girl does bite.
Okay, so enough rambling. I really do need to get some work done...
Plus there are some oreos that need eating.Labels: cats, food, school

(This is post number 333! Yay!)
I am a baking machine! Typically, I try to stay away from the kitchen. I don't have the best history with fire and knives, so it's best for everyone if my forays into the kitchen are few and far between (unless, of course, I am partaking of someone else's culinary prowess). However, thanks to my sister's interest in cooking, I've become more and more interested in exercising more than just my jaw muscles. I have cable in my apartment, and my sister does not. Consequently, my sister comes over all the time to enjoy Rachael Ray and Barefoot Contessa on the Food Network. Astonishingly, I find I'm actually interested in the shows, too! I added cookbooks to my christmas wish list, and picked up a couple of my own. My kitchen is depressingly empty at the moment (re: ramen and macaroni & cheese are the two main food items). I'm actually staying with my parents until January 2nd, so until then I'll just have to make do with marking interesting recipes and writing up a grocery list for my return to Columbus. I'm contemplating cooking here for my parents for practice, but I'm really enjoying relaxing. Although, cooking can be relaxing! When everything is going right, that is...
Back to my backing achievements. Because I am on a tight budget this Christmas, I decided I would bake for my friends and family instead of shopping. Ali and I are getting together today (YAY!), so I wanted to bake some tasty cookies for her. I spent literally all day yesterday baking christmas cut-out cookies, and they came out really well! I started baking at around 12pm and I finished at 6pm. It was truly an all day project, and turned out to be a lot more work than I was expecting! The frosting didn't come out as well as I would have liked, and I had to use almond extract instead of vanilla, but the taste is still really good. I made little bells, stars, reindeer, snowmen, and christmas trees. I didn't have any cut-outs, so I had to purchase them at Giant Eagle while the dough refrigerated. Tragically, Giant Eagle didn't have any cookie cut-outs!!! I was shocked! They did, however, have little jello cut-outs, but you had to buy 6 small boxes of jello to get the cut-outs for free. I don't eat jello; no one else in my family does either. Still, I really needed the cut-outs. So, I brought the jello boxes to the register with the free cut-outs, and told the cashier to just charge me for the boxes and put them back on the shelves, because I was just going to throw them away. She slipped the cut-outs into a bag and with a secret smile told me not to worry about it. Yay! Free cut-outs!
I was exhausted after all the cutting and cookie decorating, so I decided to put the gingerbread off until today. I got up late, but I was back in the kitchen backing by 11:30am, and the gingerbread was finished by 1pm. I was a little unsure about this gingerbread, because the recipe called for finely chopped crystallized ginger. This crystallized ginger I found was VERY expensive, and it wasn't finely chopped at all. I had to chop it up best I could before adding it to the dough. The gingerbread is delightful, though! It has a really sweet holiday taste, and is perfect with a cup of tea!
I am really proud of myself. I didn't burn anything, cut myself, burn down the house, or break anything! I plan on making buckeyes for my grandparents, but I won't start on those until closer to Christmas. There is nothing more delicious than a candy buckeye!
And I seriously can't believe I just wrote a whole post about cooking. How domestic is that?
Perhaps I'll next write about my 21st birthday... I think a celebratory post is long overdue, too (celebrating the end of hellish autumn quarter!).
I think I'll go munch on some gingerbread and enjoy my novel. I'm currently reading Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Dart, an excellent fantasy novel if you're looking for a good one.
I do so love winter break!Labels: christmas, food
